Top 7 of the Most Beautiful Places in Arkansas
Arkansas is the "Natural State" for a
reason; any travel guide will tell you that the southern state is famous for
its abundant wilderness, hot springs, mountains, rivers, and caves. Here are
our top picks for the more unusual sites that are unique to Arkansas.

1. Anthony Chapel
The Anthony Chapel, one of America's most
sought-after wedding venues, is a striking, tall structure nestled deep within
Hot Springs' Garvan Woodland Gardens. The chapel's tree-like wooden beams shoot
up into the forest, while the glazing between them creates the illusion that
the space is completely open to the surrounding woodland. Unless there is a
wedding, which occurs almost every weekend, the space is serene and zen.
2. President Clinton’s
Doe's Eat Place in Little Rock will go down in
history as a hangout for Bill Clinton and his campaign team during the 1992
presidential campaign. There was even a Rolling Stones interview with the
then-candidate there. President Clinton's favourite dish was by the
restaurant's chef at the time: "The Governor always eats jalapeno
cheeseburgers, lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise, pickles, and onions." The good
news is that the famous cheeseburger is still available, albeit without the
jalapenos.
3. Hawksbill Crag
Hawksbill Crag, a sharp rock jutting out of the
forest walls, has to be one of Arkansas' most scenic spots. The state's most
popular proposal location overlooks the magnificent Buffalo River scenery. The
best time to visit is early in the morning before the tourists and
photographers arrive.
4. Flying Fish in Little Rock
The Flying Fish in Little Rock is the only
restaurant in the world where you can also give up your Billy Bass toy (one of
those horrific singing wall decorations so popular in the 1990s). Rueful owners
can sign some paperwork, have their fish hung on one of the restaurant's walls
and receive a free catfish basket in exchange.
5. Arkansas possum pie
We don't need to explain that possum pie does not
contain any possum meat. This glorious mash-up of cream cheese, chocolate
custard, cream, and pecans is an unmissable signature dish in the state. Almost
every town has a favourite, but some of the best possum pies can be at Sassy's
Red House in Fayetteville, Myrtie Mae's in Eureka Springs, or the Patti Cakes
bakery in Conway.
6. Underground waterfalls
The Glory Hole waterfall in Ozarks National Park is
one of the state's most attractions. A creek that runs through the park drilled
a hole through the rock, forming a 30-foot-high waterfall that cascades from
ground level into a cave beneath. It's best to visit immediately after a heavy
rain, when the water gushes down, or in winter when the waterfall has frozen
into a spectacular icy column.
7. Supermarket Museum
The Walmart Museum in Bentonville may not be the
most obvious day trip, but it is prime and obligatory fun in Arkansas. The
exhibits trace the history of the world's largest corporation, which is in this
city. The ice cream at The Spark Café soda fountain, located within the museum
walls, is particularly popular with visitors. Who is Sam Walton's favorite?
The flavor of butter pecans.
